About The Book

This book primarily focuses on the efforts of four non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Tamenglong District, a remote area in Manipur. In the current study, these NGOs have implemented Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) by adhering to a bottom-up approach, engaged in micro-planning, and conducted baseline surveys within the project region during the planning phase. This demonstrates that the four NGOs have proactively taken the essential steps during the research’s planning process.
This study explores the operational frameworks, initiatives, and impacts of four non-governmental organizations actively involved in various development sectors within Tamenglong. Renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, Tamenglong remains one of the most underdeveloped districts in the state. Issues such as insufficient infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and limited educational and livelihood opportunities impede the district’s progress. This book shed light on the practical approaches and challenges encountered by these organizations.
I hope that this book will prove to be beneficial resource for policymakers, development practitioners, researchers and students who seek to gain insight into the complexities of rural development through the perspective of grassroots initiatives.
